CARB Core Facilities

David O'Brochta (Ph.D., University of California, Irvine, 1984) has over 20 years of research and development experience in the field of insect molecular genetics. He and his collaborators have pioneered the development of insect genetic modification technology. He is the co-discoverer and developer of the Hermes gene vector which is currently a widely used insect gene vector. He has published over 30 scientific research papers in the area of insect genetic modification.

In addition to research and development David O'Brochta has been involved in promoting the development of regulatory and containment guidelines to promote the safe development and use of this technology.
